DO PARENTS KNOW SOCIAL MEDIA APPS? (REACT: Do They Know It?)


♪ (upbeat theme music) ♪ – (Finebros) Today, we’re gonna test
your knowledge of social media platforms based on if you know their logos or not.
– (sighs) Crap. – Oh great. All right. – Oh yeah! Let’s go! – You mean like a Facebook? Okay. Instagram, Twitters? Okay. – I know the main ones I use,
if we’re going by app logos. – My kids, they use Instagram,
they use Snapchat. – I’m only on a couple of ’em, bro. Gmail. (laughing)
I don’t know, man. Google+, man. I don’t know, man.
I know I won’t get ’em all, but I’ll try. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) Do you know
this social media app? – Twitter. – Twitter. – It’s like a blue Twitter.
It’s a strange Twitter. – It looks like Twitter, but I know
it’s not because of the bird. – That’s a T, but it’s not for Twitter
because Twitter’s got the little bird. – Tubalen? Tubaler? Tubler? – I’m guessing it’s Tumblr.
Yeah, I think so. – Tumblr. I have a Tumblr, but I forgot
my password. (laughs) – Yo, I had a Tumblr site way back when. Didn’t really ever post anything to it, but yeah, it’s like
a micro-blogging platform. – (Finebros) This is the icon for Tumblr.
– Oh my god! I was so sure of myself because it’s a T. – I don’t know a damn thing about Tumblr.
Tell me about it, man. – I heard of Tumblr,
but I’ve never seen the logo. It’s almost like a Snapchat, isn’t it?
Nope? (laughs) I don’t know. – It’s just more of like
a blogging type thing. That’s what I used it for. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) What app do you think
this icon belongs to? – (sighs) I don’t know.
I don’t know what. (laughs) – Aw man, oh… Casper. – Oh, a Snapchat.
This one, yeah, I use. – Snapchat. – Snapchat! – That is a Snapchat. – That’s the ghost of Snapchat, I believe. – Snapchat! I knew that one! I don’t quite know how to use it really. – (Finebros) This little ghost icon
represents Snapchat. – That’s the one I don’t use. Okay. – It’s almost like texting, isn’t it,
but with pictures and stuff. – Snapchat is all that we do
in our house right now. – Every junior higher I teach has it. – This is something that you would use
if you don’t want to get caught doing certain things with friends,
or you don’t want your parents to see. – I know my daughter, and she made
me do one time in Snapchat and I was cooking
and she was taking pictures. I was like, “What’re you doing?” – I use it at work. My co-workers at work,
they’re younger generation, so they’re the one
who introduced me to this. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) Next up! Do you know
what this social media app is? – No. – That’s Instagram. – Instagram. – That is Instagram. – Ah-hah! Instagram. (laughing)
I hope I said it right. – Instagram! That’s the one I use, baby. I’m not ashamed to say
that my son broke it down for me. – (Finebros) Yep, it’s Instagram.
– Yeah. It’s on my phone and I use it all the time. – I have an Instagram account myself. I don’t really post to it very much. – I could load my pictures on there and write some cute
little captions on there. – My daughter, the minute school
gets out, she’s on there ’cause it’s also how people communicate. – It’s just a fun way to catch up
on what’s going on. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) Do you know which app
this logo belongs to? – I don’t know this. – I don’t know what that would be. – I have ev– brrrr. – Ohhh, man, give me a hint.
Man, give me a hint. – Interesting. Well, obviously, it’s a phone app. – Um… Google Phone? – Is it Google Call? – WhatsApp.
This is a messaging service. – (Finebros) This is
the messaging service WhatsApp. – WhatsAPP? – No, I haven’t heard of this. – Nope, don’t know it. – Oh, it’s WhatsApp. Okay. – I have Viber, so I don’t wanna
just rub it in WhatsApp’s face. – Never used it,
never seen the need for it. I don’t think my kid uses it,
but I know some of the other kids on my team, my soccer team,
before they actually had iPhones, when they just had iPods,
they used it to talk to each other. – (Finebros) WhatsApp is a messaging app that uses the internet
to text and make calls, and of this year, the app
has a user base of 900 million, making it the most popular
messaging app in the world. – Wow! How come I’m not using it? These new things keep
coming and coming and coming and I’m being left behind. – Really? That’s crazy. Is it free? I’m just really out of the loop. – I never heard of it. Why can’t they just use
phone to call them? – Wow, I need to jump on that, man.
Is that free also? I’m on it! ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) Do you know
which app this logo belongs to? – This one’s supposed to be a new one.
I saw it. I don’t know. – I don’t know. – I don’t know. VoiceAlerts?
Voice something? – I don’t know if it’s… uh, Vine? – Vine? – This is Vine. – It’s Vine and that’s the little videos. – That’s when they loop it, they loop it. – Vine are six second videos
that loop forever. – (Finebros) This is the logo for Vine,
a video sharing app. – Oh, that Vine crap! Ugh, god! Really? – Isn’t it that little videos
that become trending? Is that what a Vine is? – It even looks like a vine, doesn’t it? A little leafy, viney situation happening. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) Do you know this app logo?
– No idea. It’s a little flame, so it’s gotta be
something hot, I guess. – I have no clue what that is. It’s like a big tear drop
with a piece missing. – Fire? Or Devil? – Do you wanna give me a hint? – Emergency and Rescue? – Mmm, FireStarter. FireStarter is when you wanna start rumors, then you’ll just go ahead
and put those rumors on FireStarter. (laughing) I don’t know what this one is. – Oh, I know what it is!
Yes– is this Tinder? – (Finebros) This is the logo for Tinder.
– Tinder? – Tinder. – To the right and left, right? – Oh, it’s Tinder! Well, it’s a good thing
I didn’t know it, right, ’cause I’m married! – I’ve heard nothing
but negative things about Tinder. – I know it’s what you do to get a hook up! – It’s like people hook up. It’s not like, “Yeah, I wanna meet
my wife or my husband.” – (Finebros) Tinder’s a dating app
used for meeting people for anything from casual hook ups,
to dating and relationships. Have you ever used Tinder?
– No, I have never used Tinder or even heard of Tinder. – Well, I’m married,
so, no, I don’t use Tinder. – Tinder is after my time. I actually used OKCupid
when I was in college. – Whenever I have a single friend
in the house, I’m on their Tinder. Swiping, and swiping, and swiping.
‘Cause it’s fun! ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) And for our last social media app,
do you know this one? – Yay, Facebook! – Facebook. – Facebook. – Facebook. – Founded by Mark Zuckerberg. It’s the biggest social network there is. – That one I know.
I’m there every day. – I like it for communication, and for knowing
about relatives and friends. – Facebook has allowed me
to get back in contact with people that are very important to me. I absolutely love it. – It’s for old people now, by the way. (laughs) That’s what my kids tell me. – (Finebros) Despite its popularity,
there’s actually a big decrease in traffic because younger people
are not using Facebook as much and are instead using
other social media platforms, and they often will say
that Facebook is “too old” for them. – Mmm, it’s already getting outdating, huh? Ain’t that something, boy. – Okay, but it’s more easy for us
(laughs) to deal with. – Did you guys think you were gonna
stump me on Facebook? I hope you stumped nobody on Facebook. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – (Finebros) To wrap up this episode,
as a parent, do you think social media has made life easier
or more difficult for you? – I think it could be either/or. If you’re not a strong
communicator as a parent, it could be overwhelming,
and it can be a barrier to talk to your kids. – It’s a different time now. And it’s constantly changing and evolving. – I love how connected
we are on social media. And then on other levels,
it’s a little creepy how connected we are. I worry about predators and weirdos that are looking at my daughter’s
pictures on Instagram. – All these apps are pretty good
because they’re new. You have no limit on what you can do. If you’re creative,
you’re gonna do lots of things, but I never use them, so I don’t know. ♪ (quirky interlude) ♪ – Thanks for watching Do They Know It?

  1. You say social media "Apps", but you do realize that all of these were websites long before some guy thought they would be cool on a phone.

  2. I knew all of those except for the calling app and I did or do have all of them except for the calling app

  3. I was in class and the teacher asked us what were the main social media apps, when I said Tumblr NOBODY FREAKING KNEW
