7 Reasons You Should Quit Facebook | Negative Effects Of Social Media

If you’re not paying for the product, you
are the product. I loved this quote cause it forces you to
think about what’s really going on with social media. How are they using my information? How are they collecting all of my actions? Why are they putting pixels on my computers
following me around the web? How are all these targeted ads popping up
in there, and how is this affecting my health? Many of you may notice actually it’s not good
for you. It may be affecting the way you sleep. It may be affecting your relationships. In today’s video, we’re going to talk about
the negative implications, how you can actually hack Facebook to be useful for you and if
need be how to quit. Now don’t get me wrong. I think you can responsibly use Facebook. In fact, I kind of hack the system. I’ll talk about how I’m doing it here in a
few seconds. But I use it as a bookmarking service. I also use the live broadcaster so that I
can stay in touch with my family; give them updates when we’ve been traveling around the
world. However, there’s a dark side. It’s not really talk about all the time of
how Facebook isn’t in many cases bringing us close together. It’s actually dividing us. Look at the latest election. You didn’t see anyone’s mind change on Facebook. What you saw are tribes all the sudden come
together and you started off cutting off your neighbor. You started cutting off friends and family
who didn’t have the same political views as you. You also see the comparison where you look
at your family the day to day situations. You see this beautiful pictures of another
family and you’re like oh my gosh. I’m a complete loser because my wife doesn’t
look like that or my kids apparently don’t behave like this for a family photo. It forces comparisons on us. When it comes down to it the negatives of
the social media platform are real and you need to recognize them. So let’s talk about how you can hack Facebook. Tip #1 to hack Facebook is to disable notifications. Now this applies to everything on your phone. In fact, I encourage you to put your phone
on silent. Turn it off when you’re not using it and don’t
let messages or any other apps out there have notifications which are going to grab your
attitude. We feel important when someone has talked
about us, notified us and we want to go check it instantly. Don’t fall into this trap because when you
do this again and again it becomes an addiction. It becomes you’re checking your phone every
couple of seconds even when you don’t hear the beep. Whenever you don’t even hear the notification
because you’re hoping and that’s what you want to avoid. Tip #2: Set your privacy settings to the max
and make it so that people can’t tag you in photos. I know when I mentioned that earlier some
of you are saying I want to be notified whenever someone tags me in a photo cause I want to
make sure it looks good. How about you just don’t let them tag you? Are you going to lose out if that doesn’t
happen? How about setting it up so that random people
can’t request to become your friend? Sure it feels good when some attractive woman you
don’t know sends you a friend request. But really what good is going to come of this
especially if you’re a married man. Be careful of those yellow flags and avoid
them by simply setting your privacy settings to the max. Tip #3 for hacking Facebook is to unfriend
useless friends on Facebook. I know. That sounds incredibly cruel. But let’s face reality. You’ve got some true friends on Facebook. People that if something happen, you would
drive across the country to support them. If they needed money, you would wire it. If they had somebody died, you would spend
the night with them on the phone consoling them. And then you’ve got people that you don’t
even know who this person is. How in the world did I connect with them? What is going on? If you got 2000 friends, if you got 1000 friends
probably 50%-75% of those people you could unfriend. How to do this though? Actually do the birthday test. Facebook is kind enough to let us know whose
birthday it is. If you wouldn’t get on the phone and call
that person and wish them happy birthday maybe you need to unfriend that person. Tip #4 for hacking Facebook is to get rid
of all the useless information. How to get rid of the useless information? Well first of realize most the information
there is useless. So be selective about who you follow. Instead of unfriending people if that was
too extreme for you, you can go back and you can unfollow. I usually go through and if I don’t like if
a person’s posting cause maybe they’re ultra political or maybe they post a lot about cats,
maybe they post a lot about just something that they’re passionate about but honestly
I don’t care about, I simply unfollow them. Now it’s not unfriending them because I can
go and check out their profile but by unfollowing them my newsfeed is no longer clutter. You slowly can do this and you will surprise
at what’s going on with a lot of people you haven’t heard off for a while or maybe some
pages that you like a year ago that actually it’s relevant to you. Now the ads you can actually select and tell
that this ad is not relevant to me. This ad is offensive to me. So control the information that’s being shown
to you. Facebook hack #5: Change your password frequently
and don’t save it on your device. Use random letters, random numbers. Not only is this more secure but when you
go to check it on your phone maybe over on your computer, you realize darn it. I was just going to randomly check it but
I can see I have to reenter that code. I’m going to have to go find it. I’m going to have to enter it. It’s too much work. I’ll worry about it later. Guess what. You did not check it. That little barrier is enough to stop you
from going in there and you’re going to end up spending less time on Facebook. Hack #6 to spending less time on Facebook:
Delete the app from your phone. You take your phone everywhere. So not having the app there no longer is the
temptation to check it. In fact, what’s funny is when you delete the
app and you’re going to be checking your phone probably for the next few days saying it’s
gone, it’s not there. Again, enough of a barrier that maybe you’ll
want to reinstall it. I understand for some people in business you
want to have it there on the phone for the live broadcast. But I think most of us can get away with actually
just simply checking our laptop computer, our desktop whenever we need to and we don’t
need to be checking it when we’re out with our kids at the park. Hack #7 for spending less time on Facebook
is to simply outsource it. Yes. Give it away and this specifically applies
to companies. People that are using social media to grow
groups, to grow pages for their particular companies or maybe people that look to start
a business. Maybe if you are looking to build yourself
up as a personality. Is this the best use of your time? So you can find very affordable people throughout
the world who will manage your Facebook, other accounts out there for social media, Instagram. Yes. You may argue they’re not going to do as good
of a job for you. But if you’re just getting started with your
business, guess what. The no.1 job of your business that you should
be focusing on is growing the business side. Often times it has nothing to do with social
media. By outsourcing you force yourself to actually
figure out what is the monetary value of growing my presence on social media and can I set
up a system so I can hand this off. So everything I just talked about those are
hacks to getting what you want out of Facebook, to bending it to your will. But let’s talk about still what if Facebook
is not worth it. You’re like Antonio I don’t want to go through
all those hacks. It’s affecting me in a negative way. I’m not sleeping well. I’m always checking my notification. I’m addicted to it. Then I would recommend you take a step back
and possibly just quit. In the description of this video I’m going
to put that link where you can just click that link and it will take you right to the
place on Facebook where you can delete your profile. And if you’re really serious about this, do it. Why not? Because what’s the worst that will happen. You’ll have to recreate your profile. Oh, isn’t that an opportunity for you then
to be more selective about who your friends are, who you want to engage, who you want
to follow. That may be actually a great thing. I’ve seen people quit and come back. But I’ve also seen people quit and say my
life is so much better. Cause yeah I’m not getting the notifications
about the party that I didn’t even want to go to. But I find that people that really care about
me that I have a deep relationship with call me, send me a message, send me a letter, send
me an email. So you have to make the right decision for
you. I would love to hear from you guys down the
comment what do you think of videos like this. It’s a little bit outside of style. But I do think it is related to business communication,
how we feel about ourselves hence why I wanted to cover it. And to my friend Chad, I highly advise you
just quit because everything that we’ve talked about to me it seems like the right choice
and what’s the worst case scenario that will happen man. You’re going to end up coming back stronger. That’s it guys.

  2. More often than not…people put on a show that they hope would be appreciated. Seeking appreciation or even attention is a not healthy. Appreciating one's self would lead to greater things in one's life.

  3. I just can't quit facebook because my college professors post their class updates (eg. topics for next class, cancellations of classes, soft copies of study guide). I can't quit even if I want to but what I do is deactivate my account and ask for updates from my classmates and I just reactivate it if I dont have someone I can ask. I keep my messenger active though so I can keep in touch with my friends and family. Also my fb friends are less than 150

  4. Ha Ha. I was already doing all these for years on Facebook. Lol. (Except the password change part) even then I still don't really care for it most the time. I only ever get on it when I'm super bored. I don't think I could possibly be addicted to Facebook. In fact last year when I deleted it I had been wanting to get rid of it for a long time but didn't for a couple reasons that I thought I might need it. But I got an account again hoping I could enjoy the few beneficial parts of it but honestly I still don't care for FB so I'll probably get rid of it again. Lol.

  5. I quit Facebook 3 months ago because fb is destroy your reputation, life and most of all respect and social interactions I hate fb but YouTube is the best

  6. DONT BE MEAN TO FACEBOOK I HAVE TEN THOSEND FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK ALL MY FRIENDS PLAY FACEBOOK I LOVE FACEBOOK PLEASE DONT WE NEED FACEBOOK

  7. Literally, exactly what I did. Quit it for 6 months, got it back to primarily keep in contact with family and see how they're doing. I now keep my friend list below 100, it was previously 1,300. I now only check my Facebook for 15 minutes, once a week, and guess what… I have more time for MYSELF, I feel LESS negative and I am MORE productive.

If you can not do something responsibly, do not do it at all.

  8. I quit Facebook two months ago after my wife and sister got into a very stupid argument. It's also responsible for my brother and sister in law divorce. It's a very destruction place. I wants nothing to do with it. I have no doubt the Russian are using it to undermine the country. #deleteFacebook

  9. I just deleted the main Facebook app, and kept messenger. Also they have an app for events called "local" which I downloaded to keep in touch with events. I find the news feed to be the most toxic part of Facebook, but I still like to keep in touch with friends on there. So all you have to do is delete the main app, and the news feed is gone

  10. I didn't delete my Facebook, facebook deleted me. My political opinion is to far Right for the leftist communist cucks. My life is so God damn much better without it.!

  11. I just deleted my Facebook account today. I got sick of my ultra-leftist friends sharing their batshit crazy climate change alarmist views. I also got sick of right-wing bullshit from people who whine about “socialism” without knowing what the word really means. Let’s hope I make it past thirty days, whereïn the account will be gone forever.

  12. Dropped all Social Media in 2017, feels great nothing better than actually living my real life and not seeing other peoples fake lives, kids with the flu or cold, new cars, new house etc. annoying everyone on FB has low self esteem, over it.

  13. Finally got the nerve to abandon FB! So much negativity, competition and jealousy between so-called friends. Im happy for everybody, but to hear people constantly brag over and over about the same accomplishments gets old. One friend paid 50000 cash for her home… Kudos to you! But who wants to keep seeing you post about your home being paid for and you haven't paid property taxes and owe almost 7000 dollars in overdue taxes. Post something about that. It's just a parade of look at me, Im cute, Im on vacation….blah, blah, blah

  14. I quit using Fb don't know if temporarily or partially but honestly something feels a bit off posting life updates consistently like who cares. Also, everyone uses to either be angry, trying to make someone jealous. Fb is TOO much pressure and a popularity contest. I personally have currently been at this time lol preferring snapchat more private, fun. less pressure and less of a popularity contest.

  15. i log on here and there but never post. Slowly weening myself for good. I view facebook as high school all over, popularity contest, who's in who's not, narcissist cess pool. Im good.

  16. To start I just deactivated my account…it's my New Year's Resolution…no FB for 6 months. After that, if I don't want to go back, I will delete my profile from there. Great video!

  17. I quit New Years Eve.

I got banned from FB for hate speech for a week over a dank meme that was ultimately a dark joke on a shitpost page. After watching a Stefan Molyneux video recently that.touched on this topic as well. FB has also been selling info to other companies and have begun allying with NGOs to comply with authoritarians.

I ended up deleting my FB app and I am only keeping messenger. I decided to use Gab and Minds which are far more reasonable. I have begun to think about things and watching more awesome things.

I also had to block 3 former friends because I found out they were SJWs and Socialists. Things are also getting problematic in my country and it has been caused by these fools.

Until I can find something meaningful to do with my Social Media, I am not going back.

  18. I quit periscope for a year and did not go back it was addicting. I then stop going on social media which took my anxiety away. I do not watch TV at all and I go on You Tube once in a bit. I do not go on Facebook at all since 3 years. I have notice more people that quit social media started to not have depression and anxiety. I read the bible which has changed my life and I have learned that I can live without many things that I thought I needed. I also lost 45 lbs my life has changed for the better since I go online less.

True at first it is painful like an ache but it goes away eventually. I now help people quit social media which now most of them started offline businesses.

  19. facebook knows way too much about you and that information can be stolen easily. Facebook is a liability and I am done with Facebook and couldn't be happier.

  20. do not care about Facebook, leave it alone for a few weeks, months or years and be responsible with Facebook and do not let Facebook control your lives.

  21. Facebook , the face of un social media . I’ve put the app at the very end of my phone screens & been offline for around 3 months now . Of course Facebook is desperate to grab my attention with over 100 notifications for random shit . Oh you have a friend suggestion 😆 , somebody commented on a group page your a member of zzzzzzzzzzzzz. I will at some point do back again for a one min check in , then disappear for another 3 months or possibly a year . I’m bored of people posting their perfect selfies , food pics , emotional fishing posts , such as oh I’m fucking angry !! To which they expect replies along the lines of , oh what’s up babe ? . If I have time , then I’ll read a book a paper , or make contact with someone personally . I’m tired of messaging people who have blatantly seen a message and ignore me , then they get angry when I unfriend them ! 😂😂😂😂 . I means what’s that about . It’s more of a how many friends do I have , rather than how many real friends do i have . People complain about having no time , then spend an hour or more a day trawling through other people’s online lives . Keeping away is delightful , because I don’t miss it , what I miss is the way people used to be social . Shake hands , hug , buy each other a beer or a coffee and devote real time to each other .

  22. So glad you made this. I stopped going on and took the app off of my phone almost a year ago. My life is better for it. It wasted so much if my time and did nothing positive for me. I encourage people to do this. It saps your productivity in a big way. I stayed on Instagram but took it off my home page. Just that little difference decreased the time I spend scrolling through mindlessly by more than half. I replaced it with business news and investing apps. Best move I've ever made!

  23. I got fed up with Crapbook. The feed, nosy people and fake pictures are stupid. I deleted my account. It's overrated and I've never been happier than when I was connected to all those fake people.
I value interactions in person more,it's way more rewarding.

  24. I feel like fb is for immature people old and young who feel the tremendous need for validation from people who don’t matter. I have deleted fb and instagram.. I have snap but it’s barely used.

  25. I quit, I found out who my real friends where and sleep so much better at night, living in the real world without fakebook

  26. Facebook is very TOXIC and such a huge waste of time! I deleted my Facebook account (along with Instagram, Twitter & Snapchat) cause they were affecting my Mental Health in a very negative way!

  27. I deleted FB today. I realised that more fake. nosey, and gossip was more on peoples minds than actual being a friend(s). I am very happy now!

  28. I am so glad that (as an IT guy) that I recognized from the beginning what a sick thing that social media is (Facebook being the worst of the worst), and I have never had an account with any of them and never will . However, it was inevitable that something like it was bound to exist that exploits the basic human need to be validated by other people. I feel a little bit sorry for this new generation that believes this platform is so essential in their everyday lives, but really I have no sympathy for any negative repercussions (no matter how severe) that people experience by voluntarily posting their information online for all to see. "You", as a user of this abomination, are solely to blame for this debacle. Case in point, I should have said I was an IT "person" instead of IT "guy" in this comment, that was way too much information to reveal about myself. Oh well.

  29. I am getting less and less motivated using Facebook with all their changes to people with business pages, and to me it seems FB is trying to force us to post business ads on their website which how many new business owners can afford to do this?

    Jeff

  30. I had over 50 friends at a time on my Facebook. Year ago I deleted it and ended having just one real life friend, and we made our friendship stronger than ever, because I no more waste my precious time on Facebook, but improving me and my life. This way all relationships becomes stronger, like never before, walk out from social media. Nothing to miss!!!

  31. Facebook users are terribly lacking. Mostly I find them dull individuals. Self obsessed pouting princesses or keyboard commando tough guys. The worst ones are the Facebook pro's who have dedicated their lives to its platform for the last 15 years..
I started to learn guitar in 2004 when FB was born. And guess what? Now I can play like a mofo, and everyone laughed at me because.. WHAT!! I'm not on facebook.? "Well I have to say.. Your not laughing anymore are you"… They have mostly become experts at masturbation and being antisocial.. Funny how things turn out 👍

  32. This is so true brother……..facebook is only good for spreading religious & political violence……..it is like a boon for terrorist organization to spread their agenda.

  33. The only social media I have is YouTube <3. But I still don't consider YT as social media, even though it's classified as a social media.

  34. Antonio thank you so much I'm only 12 and did not start a facebook so thanks for helping me learn all of that. May I ask how to do these with youtube because it is a time robber? My parents are kind of old school so they did not give me all those electronics now I'm not sure sure I want them so again thank you.

  35. The Telephone, Bus, Trains, Flight, Ships, & The invention of The MOTOR Vehicle HAPPENED FOREVER AGO!! DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT BE A HYPOCRITE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DEFUSE A SITUATION FROM THE SOUL RAPING TACTICS OF WORLD GOVERNMENT SOCIAL MEDIA

FACEBOOK IS THE MOST WICKED TWO FACED IDIOTIC @SS BACKWARDS LOW LIFE MANIPULATIVE MULTIBILLION DOLLAR WASTE OF EXISTENCE HUMANITY HAS EVER CAME UP WITH AND IF I EVER MEET THAT SACK OF CRAP WHO CREATED IT HOPEFULLY BY THAT TIME I WILL HAVE AN ARMY OF INDIVIDUALS AND COUNTRIES WHO ARE READY TO REMEMBER WHAT IT ONCE WAS TO LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD AND TO HAVE A SOUL AND THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL AUTHENTIC ORGANIC THOUGHT AND CHARACTERISTICS

  36. Hii i have my reaserch paper on facebook effect on student achievement could you please help me im waiting for your feedback

  37. My mom is addicted to Facebook and I tell her to stop but she yells at me and says "I'm not on it like you think I am!" Before Facebook she was so nice 🙁

  38. Facebook is a waste of my time seeing nonsense post or stupid meme from your friends timeline.

  39. Or maybe because they post a lot about cats!,😂😂 This dude would definitely unfollow me!

  40. I quit Facebook in 2016. Its win, win win,
I am now addict to you tube lol. You tube is educational and really helped me on self improvement. Facebook was detrimental to my goals so burning it on the digital fire 🔥 of hell was best thing I ever did on the net.

  41. I am so addicted to facebook that I check it every 5 minutes. It makes me anxious when I'm not using it and because of that I have ruined my sleep schedule. Enough is enough! I can't let an app take control over my life!

    I quit! 5 June 2019.

  42. What should I do if Facebook has “blackballed” me and blocks me out every time FB does not like my opinion?

  43. I deleted my fb. I donr accept or add the people that I don't know. When I deleted my after 2 months there's only one friend who out of 300 people came to my house and actually asked me how am I doing. I was happy and made me realised that you don't need a lot of friends in social media one friend is enough to keep in your life.

  44. A retired nurse here + sad to say, some women my age are consistently posing all day long in retirement! I still have my account but never post or check since 2019, perhaps only 1X/month–great comments here and will delete my account. A complete waste of time–Bragbook, I call it–I've read books, got out in the fresh air to exercise, cook real food, have my plants, wildlife + birdsongs, plus beaches, here in Rhode Island. What more do I need? Certainly not the Book of Narcissists.

  45. I dumped Facebook yesterday. For me, it was due to privacy issues. I am a very private individual and I DON'T want to be found! Facebook was just too easy for people to find me honestly! I don't like that current and prospective Employers can simply view your profile (even if it's just my name and a few pics, it can still say a great deal). They can click on your friends and see who you associate with. Let's just BE REAL, it's a great way for your X to find you, for Creditors you're on the run from, or even Govt entities. We haven't even touched on the fact that your information is sold by FB to other commercial entities! It's just BAD NEWS all around and I've DUMPED FB for the good!

  46. I have this problem that i had to make a lot of accounts is whenever i make an account they will quickly disabled it after like 10 minutes or so and then ask me a bunch of question that i dont even know what they mean and im really feeling unease whenever that happen, do you happen to know this things?

  47. I dated a girl who had over 2,500 pictures of just herself on Facebook. Can you say RED FLAG? She had about 120 pictures of her friends pictures. Everything she did was a selfie, seriously. I dumped her since she never really spoke to me, but her phone was always in her hand taking selfies. I don't have social media. I wonder why?

  48. You should be talking about why Facebook's logins are being a mindless, hunk junk? Nobody is talking about it for some reason?
I just know i'm not the only one with problem. When i put my phone-number in and password in the login it says 6-dig-get code, i ask for the code it didn't pop-up to my Email and also i don't know why is it sending to my phone-number and not my Email i don't even know if they're where, they're sending the code at. I keep trying and it's doing the same-thing and i don't know "why?" And when i go to my guest account in my tablet it freezes my screen. it's totally destroyed until my battery runs out. That's what i hate about Facebook when they be doing these type of stuff, it bothers me! I might think about quiting Facebook for good and just use Instagram,Youtube,Twitter and google+ well google+ is terminated for good but still. Facebook needs to fix they're logins and sign ups. Now i got to wait over night until my battery in my tablet dies.

  49. I agree and it's what I took from Cal Newport, who wrote the book called "digital minimalism". If you want to use facebook or any other platform, it has to be wisely and because it has a high value, not just because it's useful. I deleted all my social media accounts and I have no regrets, I'm much happier and way less stressed, I sleep better and I have healthier habits.. I don't hate social media but I do hate the bad habits people have with them and their smartphones.

  50. Thanks Antonio for this video it really helped me! I use Facebook all the time and I also have a music page on there to promote myself as a musician however I have too many Facebook friends just shy of 1,400 and a lot of those people are ones I knew from school who bullied me and made me feel smaller and because I have Aspergers I got bullied a lot but I also became the bully and enjoyed pissing them off back because of my insecurities but they made my life hell so they deserved it. Now I see that a lot of them are more successful and liked than I am even though some haven’t been to university and I have, it makes me feel like a bad guy and a huge failure and that my former bullies are actually kind decent secure people, with families, relationships full time jobs and houses yet I am 25 and still live at home never had a relationship with a girl and never have done a full days work only part time gigs as a musician. I see those bullies of mine posting amazing show off posts and I get angry and sickened and almost wanna tell them how jealous and bitter I feel towards them. So now I cannot stand having them on there as they are far better people than me, and I’m always blaming my learning disability on the face I’m a very immature sociopath and I am mentally a 14-16 year old. So now I’m gonna halve my Facebook friends list from 1400 to 700 and I’m actually gonna block all my former bullies so I can stop being a jealous hateful BAD guy!

  51. I got so disgusted by the endless narcissistic selfies certain "friends" would post. It bothered me so much! I noticed that I didn't really feel good on fb. It caused anger, low self esteem, jealous tendencies, fake surface relationships, addiction to checking notifications which fed my own self-centeredness. I just deactivated my account tonight. I know I will go through a few days of withdrawals after all these years. But I really look forward to healing from all that negativity in my life. It's not who I really am. I look forward to being so much more present and actually living my real life. Not the fake BS on fb. Yay!!! I feel free already.
